Gender equality #ThanksToYou
International Women’s Day, also calledInternational Women’s Day,will take place on March 8. It is a day when we recognize and highlight the social, economic, professional, cultural and political achievements of women in addition to raising awareness of what we still need to do to achieve equality. This year’s theme is #Thanks to youwith the aim of paying tribute to those who are driving change in gender equality.
We all have a role to play in this humble cause. Thanks to those who are taking action to fight against injustice, the number of women at the head of companies who are finding a place on the management committee is increasing. As Major Kathryn Foss, retired military and diversity and community advocate, puts it: “Breaking down barriers benefits not only women, but all humanity. Inclusive culture promotes respect for individual differences where unique perspectives bring strength, understanding and compassion to the world.»
Did you know that diverse teams in the workplace significantly outperform homogeneous teams, regardless of whether they are exclusively male or female? Collective intelligence offers a complementarity of perspectives in creative problem solving through analysis and effective communication. Iris Bohnet, professor of public policy at Harvard University, confirms this in her report “ Women Matter »[1] published by McKinsey & Company. This same firm specializing in transformation also publishes a work which suggests that a lack of gender diversity in management teams is associated with a 29% drop in profitability compared to companies that form mixed executive teams.[2].
So why not take a moment to think about how to make a concrete change in our organizations today? Whether in our staffing practices, talent management, or vigilance with regard to pay equity, it could be that #Thanks to you, a woman can exercise her full potential in the near future. And we would all benefit from it!
For the 2019 holiday season, Iceberg Management presented the Ms. Monopoly board game to its loyal customers, honoring very popular inventions designed by women.
