Workplace Culture and Employee Retention

Let’s take the time to live!
What if it were that simple? Work-life balance is a concept that has existed for more than 40 years and which still represents a major challenge today. As mentioned by my colleague Andrée Mantha in her article last week on psychological capital (PsyCap), the employer has the power to positively impact the mobilizing capital of employees. This week, I’m making you think about what we call “family capital”.
Originally, the need was specifically for women entering the workforce. However, with technological changes, global competition and the appearance of new generations in the workplace, needs have become a source of concern for companies. They seek loyalty and motivation from workers who are becoming increasingly rare. Not to mention the labor shortage which is now omnipresent. Measures aimed at promoting work-life balance are therefore essential.
Multiple research shows that the investment is worth it. We just have to think about the benefits:
- Reduced stress and fatigue;
- Reduction in absenteeism;
- Reduction in costs related to absences (replacement, disability, etc.);
- Reduction in voluntary departures;
- Increase in business performance;
- Improved quality of life and well-being at work;
- Improved employee attraction, retention and engagement.
To name just a few…
And yet you read this and cringe at each new request for accommodation. Because is it really possible to implement? The answer: Certainly!
Several simple, inexpensive solutions can be implemented quickly in order to have an impact on family capital. Just think of flexible hours, paid leave banks, teleworking, concierge services (cleaner, hairdresser, caterer, automobile services) and health services (subscription to a sports center, massage therapy, yoga classes , various workshops).
It’s all a question of balance! The needs of the company must be taken into account, while also taking into account those of the employees. Surveying needs and interests will allow you to act in the right places and achieve the most significant impact. It is known that when we tackle problems at the source and practice prevention, it can only be beneficial.
