Why is everyone talking about collective intelligence?

Collective intelligence has become a hot topic of discussion. It values the diversity of knowledge, skills, and perspectives within a group.

But why the sudden interest? According to François-Xavier Duperet, “collective intelligence is identified as an essential lever for transforming organizations in a sustainable way and establishing lasting performance. Mobilizing collective intelligence appears to be essential in a changing context.”

The many benefits of collective intelligence

Solving complex problems and informed decision-making

In an increasingly fast-paced world, collective intelligence facilitates complex problem-solving and innovation. Decision-making becomes more informed, of higher quality, more thoughtful, and less biased. The diversity of ideas from all employees leads to creative and innovative solutions. All blind spots are covered!

Increased commitment and resilience to stress

Collective intelligence enables companies to strengthen the individual and collective commitment of their employees, in particular by uniting employees around the company’s objectives and projects and by consolidating its organizational and managerial culture (CHERKAOUI, 2019)1. Companies that adopt collective intelligence practices are recognized for their adaptability and resilience. It plays a key role in stress resilience at the individual, team, and organizational levels. When a group faces complex challenges or high-pressure situations, pooling intellectual, emotional, and strategic resources can mitigate the effects of stress and improve adaptability. In fact, the mental load on each individual is significantly reduced, while the group provides a valuable source of emotional support. According to Dufour-Poirier and D’Ortun, management methods need to be rethought “to better preserve mental health upstream, ideally through a collective and participatory approach that draws on the contributions of all members of a working community.”
