Disconnecting at work isn’t just a question of technological disruption!
More and more organizations have adopted disconnection policies at work, to raise awareness of the importance of this disconnect from technological tools and the “over-availability” that these work tools such as instant chat applications offer, to name just a few. Disconnecting at work can be beneficial for employees’ mental health. Other organizations have taken the reflection further by offering, in their health program, days dedicated to disconnection by doing an activity linked to well-being (massage, special care, therapy, etc.). Whether it is a day included in flexible leave or an additional day, it is definitely a significant advantage, especially in terms of retention levers. But what are the real impacts of these initiatives on employees and businesses?
Benefits for Employees
The principle of offering a day dedicated to disconnection or simply a day to recharge your batteries by doing an activity linked to well-being, is necessarily beneficial for the talents in our companies. Indeed, this provides them with a valuable opportunity to recover mentally and physically. Among the benefits we note the reduction of stress, the prevention of professional burnout and, in turn, the improvement of mental health. Disconnecting at work is essential for these benefits. I would even add that it is an inclusive practice, because without knowing the personal/family dynamics and the mental load that certain employees may experience in their personal lives, we offer them a way and a moment to take care of themselves. Simply having a day dedicated to wellbeing also promotes creativity, focus and engagement once you return to work. The batteries are recharged, and we feel supported, valued and this has a significant impact on job satisfaction, the feeling of belonging, loyalty, thus promoting better retention.
Benefits for organizations
For organizations, investing in employee well-being is a performance lever. Participating in the development of your employees and promoting a state conducive to positivism and productivity will inevitably remain a competitive advantage. These initiatives, of course linked to other social benefits, strengthen the employer brand, attracting a generation of talents, for whom fulfillment at work is an important prerequisite. Thus, companies that adopt a practice such as offering a day dedicated to well-being, position themselves as avant-garde and concerned about the quality of life at work.
In short, by promoting a work environment focused on well-being, companies can not only improve the quality of life of their teams, but also strengthen their productivity and their attractiveness on the market. Disconnecting at work is a strategy that ultimately benefits everyone.
Finally, did you know that the Strøm Nordic spa launched a Disconnection Day last March, which aims to give employees the benefit of an annual day off, to recharge their batteries in one of the Strøm Nordic spas?
